5 Big Mistakes Every New Entrepreneur Makes (& How To Avoid Them)

I coach women on starting their own business on a daily basis. I love the variety of businesses I worked with, but one thing never seems to change - the mistakes business owners make.

I keep on seeing entrepreneurs making the exact same mistakes over and over again. And it truly pains me to see that, and I always want to help.

So, I prepared a list of the most common mistakes I see entrepreneurs make and my tips on how to avoid these common mistakes. This should help you start seeing better results and improve your business.

Let's jump in.

5 Mistakes Every New Entrepreneur Makes and How To Fix Them

Mistake #1: Making things perfect before launching

So many incredible ideas never come to reality because the founder feels that it's not "perfect" enough. I hear this excuse so often that I would be a billionaire if I would get a dime each time.

Seeking perfectionism is the worst thing you can do for your business. The truth is, there is never going to be a perfect time to launch, and your business is never going to perfect enough. So, stop trying to make it perfect, or you're never going to get anywhere.

How to fix it:

The only way to do anything is to suck it up, launch your business and then pivot and improve as you go. Yes, it is simple as that, but trust me, it's effective.

The chances are that not many people will see your business at the very start, so don't stress about your branding not being perfect or the blog not being the best.

Launch and try to get your business in front of as many people as possible. Then, listen to what they have to say, and pivot and improve as you go. This way, you're not going to waste any time, and you start living your dream sooner than later.

Mistake #2: Copying others

Copying others blindly isn't a recipe for success. It's a recipe for disaster.

I know that it might be tempting to think that taking something that works for other people and using it yourself will work for you as well. But that's not the case.

What works for others doesn't always work for you, and you need to find something of your own if you want to succeed. Also, by copying other people, you can get in a lot of trouble.

It can completely ruin your reputation and your business if a person you're copying will decide to call you out. I've seen it happen many times online, and it's a pretty embarrassing situation to be in.

How to fix it:

Your uniqueness is what separates you from others. So, don't pretend to be anyone else; that role is already taken. Instead, learn how to tell your own story and show your personality.

It's not as hard to do, and it always guaranteed success. There have been many people online who blew up and became extremely successful the moment they decided to be themselves instead of trying to emulate what others are doing.

So, find your unique voice and unique point of view and market the hell out of it.

As Marie Forleo loves to say, "the world needs that special gift that only you have". I trust Marie, do you?

Mistake #3: No passion for the business idea

When I work with clients who are purely driven by financial success, they tend to achieve less than those who love what they do.

Building a successful business will require a lot of sacrifices and sleepless nights. And if you're not passionate about your business idea, you're not going to reach your full potential.

How to fix it:

With so many options for you to choose from, stop for a second and consider - what you REALLY want to do? Having the purpose behind your business will help you push forward when times are tough.

So, don't think about the monetary gains of starting a business. This is just a side benefit that comes with time if you're successful. Focus on finding something that brings you so much joy, you're willing to suffer for it.

This change is going to make a huge impact on your business success.

Mistake #4: Doing it all alone

I remember sitting by my laptop, all alone trying to connect the dots and feeling so lonely. It was exhausting & I doubted if I will ever "make it".

I know you have those moments as well. We somehow think that we have to figure out how to do certain things by ourselves. But it's not always the case.

You don't have to be the one to do everything in your business, and asking for help doesn't make you weak. Admitting that you need help and that you're not a superhuman is what makes you strong.

Six years have passed since that day, and I can honestly say - don't be this girl, get help and support.

How to fix it:

Invest in education, training, or business coach. Outsource as many things in your business as you can afford. Make it easier on yourself and take advantage of the fact that some people know how to do things better than you do.

Every time I invested in my business and got help, it paid off big time, and it helped my business grow.

Mistake #5: Not starting today

There is one thing that separates the most successful people from all the others. They are all action takers.

Waiting for the "perfect" time, coming up with excuses, procrastinating - all these things keep you in the comfort zone. Yes, it is a cozy place to be, but I know you have big goals in life to achieve.

And all of them are just right outside your comfort zone.

How to fix it:

The only thing you can do is start now today. Don't wait for tomorrow, next month, or the full moon. The best time is always now, and you know that deep down.

Forget your fears. Life is going to be so much better when you're out of your comfort zone, living the life, and building your dream business.

Final thoughts
