How To Choose Right Business Coach?

I have invested thousands in business coaching throughout the years. You might want to know whether it paid off for me.

And the answer to that is YES!

I'm going to be very honest with you, behind every major business move, there was a great business coach or an online program that helped me to do it.

I am a huge believer in investing in myself, and now, every time my client decides to invest in my own coaching program, I feel incredibly excited to be a part of their business journey.

But I never sign a client before a qualifying call. I always make sure that we're a good fit and that I can help them achieve their goals.

If you're considering hiring a business coach or a mentor, keep on reading as I am about to share four crucial things you should consider before hiring your coach.

Let's jump in.

4 Things To Consider Before Hiring Your Coach

#1: Is their vision of "success" aligned with yours?

This is simple - do you both see business "success" the same way?

The term success can mean a lot of things to many people. For some, it might be having a multi-million dollar international company; for others, it might be having a cute little local family-owned restaurant. You see, there are different ways to define success in business, but it is important to find a coach that understands your definition of success.

For instance, my vision of "success" is my client being really in love with the business and waking up every morning feeling excited and with a massive purpose why she does what she does. I want women to glow from within when they talk about their business. I want them to have a simplified, streamlined, "lean" business that doesn't take over their life and family time.

So, when a client with similar values comes to me, I know we will be a good match as we perceive "success" the same way.

However, if there is a client that comes to me that is only interested in making as much money in a short amount of time, I'm not going to sign them as our definition of 'success' is very different and it might not be the best option for us to work together.

So, when you're choosing a coach, try to find someone who shares your definition of success and take advantage of their free discovery calls to see if they're the right fit for you.

If you think we might be a good match, book your free discovery call with me and let's chat about you and your business.

#2: Do they have proof of their own and their clients' results?

I know "business coaches" who never had a business nor have any business-related education. The social media world is full of those so-called 'experts' who don't have a hand on experience running a successful business.

This is not to say that they don't necessarily know what they are talking about, but please be aware that not everyone pretending to be an expert actually is an expert. If you've finished business school and have a degree in business or you took an online course, it doesn't mean you can go around and offer business coach services.

So don't shy away from asking if your potential business coach has previously built any business, what education they have, and if they could share a couple of reviews of their previous clients and what results they have achieved working together.

If the potential coach doesn't provide you with legit experience or doesn't have any testimonials prooving their expertise, I would suggest you look for a different coach. You don't want it to be a waste of your money.

#3: Have they already helped you to achieve any success or bring clarity to your business?

Surely, most business coaches keep their best secrets for paying clients, but I believe they should demonstrate at least some of their knowledge before they expect to sign a client up.

That is why you see many experts share a lot of knowledge for free before you ever pay them. I do this myself by giving away tons of free valuable information on my blog and Instagram. I want people to see that I'm genuinely interested in helping them succeed.

Now, when you find your potential coach, try to answer these questions:

  • Do they provide any good information for free?
  • Do you see them as an expert on their topic?
  • Have you tried any of their tips before, and did it work for you?

You should be able to answer "yes" to all of these questions. And if you can't, then maybe this coach is not for you and you should keep looking until you find the right one.

#4: Do you know what exact result a business coach will help you to create?

You should get really clear what is the final goal you want to achieve when working together. Even the best business coach is not going to be able to help you if you don't know what you want for your business.

Here comes the need for clarity once again, and I recommend you find out the goal before you sign the coach or during the discovery call.

When talking with the potential business coach, you need to pay attention to whether the business coach can explain what results you can achieve while working with them. The way you need to be on the same page about your definition of success, you have to be on the same page about what goals you can achieve by working with them.

Expectations and coaching agenda should be really clear to keep you both on track and get you the best results possible, so you don't end up disappointed with your experience.

Final thoughts

Don't forget that business coaching only works...if you actually do the work. Yes, really, even the best business coach in the world is not going to make you successful if you're not going to execute your strategies and plans.

I know that choosing the right business coach can be a difficult and scary decision. There is a lot of money on the line, and you want to have the best experience working with someone. So, do your research, try to remember these four important things, and always use the free discovery call option.
