One of the biggest appeals of designer goods is their beautiful designs or good quality materials and branding and the way they present themselves to the world. 

 

Like, Dior, for example. They have a reputation for being one of the most elegant and prestigious luxury fashion brands, and no one dares to object them. They worked many years to craft a perfect image that increased the value of the brand, and I think we can learn a thing or two from Dior and other luxury fashion brands. 

 

They know how to do PR and branding like no one else in the world, so let's see what we can learn from Dior about personal branding.

4 Thing That Dior Can Teach Us About Building a Personal Brand:

 

#1: Dior is not for everyone, and you shouldn't be either. 

 

Luxury fashion is not for everyone, and it is set-up to be this way intentionally. Some people won't ever "get" paying 4K for a bag. Many people won't ever see value in buying anything from a designer, as it's just not what they believe is essential in life.

 

But, Dior doesn't care about it and don't try to convince those people that they should get the bag. Dior understands that they're not for everyone and that it's OK, and they don't have to appeal to everyone. They just have to appeal to the right people.

 

So, they concentrate on those who are already obsessed with the brand because they know that those people want to be their customers and that they will be happy to pay 4k, 5k, 10k for a bag that is made by Dior. 

 

And here is the lesson for you. Don't try to please and be liked by everyone. Don't expect that you'll be everyone's type, and everyone will want to buy your services or products. 

 

You do you. And concentrate on YOUR kind of people, who are obsessed with your brand and buy from you, no matter what your price is. That's how you build a profitable personal brand.  

 

#2: Dior is very consistent and clear with the brand. 

 

Dior has a whole team dedicated to crafting their image. They care about the entire picture as they know that people expect only the best from them.

 

From pricing, to look and feel, to customer service, to communication, to everything else that is important for the brand, it's all crafted with care and is super consistent all around the board. 

 

You know what you can expect from Dior, no matter where in the world you are. And it makes them stand out and live up to their luxury name. 

 

Now, when it comes to building your personal brand, always make sure that you are staying consistent with everything you do. From your tone of voice to branding to your brand photography. Make sure everything is consistent and created a cohesive look that screams it's your personal brand.

 

It's OK to be all over the place when you're starting out, but the sooner you will get your brand to be consistent, the sooner you'll start seeing better results. 

 

#3: Dior is expensive, and they are confident about it. 

 

Dior prices are always in the hundreds and the thousands. Even a simple cotton T-shirt can cost anywhere around $600, and people still buy it and don't expect to find anything under $100 at Dior. 

 

And they know their prices, and they're not shy about them. Because Dior knows that people who are truly interested in their brand will pay the price no matter what. Dior is worth the price they're charging.

 

You should be confident about your pricing as well. It might be tempting to charge as little as possible so that more people can afford you, but it's not going to help your brand, and you'll overwork yourself. 

 

Now, it doesn't mean that you should increase your prices like crazy, but don't ever apologize for charging what you are worth. 

 

So many people, especially women, really struggle to charge their value. It's OK to be expensive, and it's OK with not everyone can afford you (see #1!). You'll feel so much better about yourself and your business if you'll be able to charge what you're worth, trust me.

 

Also, when a client sees you trying to justify your price and lacking confidence, it immediately makes them doubt your worth, and it harms your brand. So, be confident in your pricing as you're worth it. 

 

#4: Dior creates emotion, and they make you feel special. 

 

Shopping at Dior is like a whole new experience and not just your average shopping in a mall. 

 

You are coming to the spacious and gorgeous looking boutique, you're greeted by an elegant looking sales assistant with great manners who is offering you a glass of champagne to enjoy while you shop. You're choosing which bag to buy and sip your champagne waiting for your purchase to be wrapped in a gorgeous bag.

 

It is not an ordinary shopping experience, for sure. And the truth is... Humans LOVE feeling special. That's why it's so effective and works for Dior even to this day.
