5 Things To Do Today To Improve Your Social Media Strategy

Social media is an incredibly powerful tool for personal brand growth. Even 90.4 % of Millennials and 97 % of Gen Z-ers are on social media, so if you're targeting this audience and you're not on social media, you're seriously missing out.

If you're already using social media to grow your personal brand or business, you need to always be on top of your game and know what to post to be successful. I know that can be hard sometimes as things are always changing.

I see a lot of business owners make the same mistakes on their social media and then wondering why something doesn't work for them or why they're not growing.

It's challenging to see your mistakes if you don't know where to look. It took me many years of experimentation to get my strategy right, and now I can help others get their strategy right as well.

Today, I compiled a list of 5 things that you can improve in your social media strategy to start seeing better results and start getting more paid clients.

Let's jump in.

#1: Get clear on who you want to attract.

Are you looking for brands to work with and promote their products/services? Or perhaps you need more clients for your business? Or maybe you're just trying to raise the awareness of your personal brand?

You need to get specific. You need to understand the type of audience you want to attract for your personal brand and business. Vanity numbers are just that - vanity. It is pointless to have many followers if they're not your ideal audience.

Also, when you know who you're talking to, it gets way easier to speak to them as well. You know what your audience likes and wants to hear, so then you can tailor your social media content to speak to them.

If you want to fill your bank, you need to understand who will be the ones paying for your services. That's the essential difference between high-earners and online entrepreneurs who struggle to make ends meet.

#2: Think backward when you create content.

What type of content your ideal audience would like to see? Once you know who you're talking to, think about what their needs are and what problems they need solving. Then go and create content that solves those needs and problems for them.

If you want to work with beauty brands, they will probably want to see you creating stunning content for other brands to see your skills. So, what you can do is showcase your work that would be great for a beauty brand. Edit it and plan it in a way to speak to that audience.

If you want to attract new customers for your business, they will want to find little tips and other content that can help them & show your expertise. Before someone commits to your service or a product that you offer, people like to know why they should choose you over your competitors.

You see, if you're always going to start creating content from the end goal, you'll never run out of ideas. There are always problems to solve and needs to fulfill.

Also, it's the best way to ensure that your content is useful. There is so much noise on social media, and people have so much information thrown at them daily that you need to serve only valuable content. Otherwise, it's going to get lost in the sea of other posts, and you're not going to get the results you want.

#3: Make your Instagram bio crystal clear.

Instagram bio is a place for you to let everyone know who you're as a person. It's not a lot of characters, so you need to think about how to use them to the full potential.

Here are a few questions you need to answer with your Instagram bio:

  • What content your followers can expect to find here?
  • What do you do?
  • What you want to be known for?
  • What is the call to action?
  • Where is your web page link?
  • An email to contact you?
  • What do you want them to do after checking you online?

Try to answer all these questions when you create your bio so that it's crystal clear and helps people to know what to expect from you when they follow you.

Also, it's essential to optimize your bio for Instagram search as you want people to find you easily. If you're a business coach, a freelance photographer, or writer, make sure it's in your title.

When people search for a professional in your field, they'll be more likely to find yours in search than if you would just write 'flower lover' or something else along those lines.

#4: Archive or delete pictures that no longer serve you & your purpose.

I see many women who struggle with deciding whether they should use their personal account for business or start a new one. Most of them feel like their personal accounts already have a following and curated content, so why start fresh?

Well, feed full of partying pictures/doing dumb things is not what most brands & clients want to see. Yes, it's nice to have all your memories, and yes, it does show your personality, but if it's not on-brand for you, it has to go.

Be mindful of how other people see you. Be mindful about crafting a brand that reflects you and your personality, but also is professional enough not to scare potential clients away.

Now, don't be afraid that it's going to be boring, and your feed is going to look bland if you don't add your personality. Many influencers show off their personality and personal life while being professional like Jenna Kutcher

She is one of the best examples of an online entrepreneur who is professional yet very personal, and it's been effective for her. She has almost a million followers (as of the day that I'm writing this) and showing no signs of stopping.

I recommend you find some examples like Jenna that appeal to you and analyze how they manage to be professional, yet personal.

#5: Use highlights to showcase the most important things.

Stories are one of the most popular features that Instagram offers, and people love this form of content. And highlights are crucial as they allow your stories to stay on your profile as long as you want and not disappear after 24 hours.

So, use this to your advantage. There is so much you can showcase with your highlights. Here are a few ideas:

  • Your portfolio
  • Product/services reviews
  • Processes examples
  • Mini tips/advice session
  • Q&A's relevant to your business

By having informative and valuable highlights, people get a better understanding of what to do when they discover you online. They don't have to google you or anything like that as everything is there in one place.

Explain how they can work with you, what is the best way to contact you, showcase your work, and what you believe in. Highlights should be your virtual business card - make sure they show the best parts of you. Also, it's so much fun to compile everything and make it look presentable!
