Can't Get Clients Using Social Media? Here's Why

"I post all the time, but nobody seems to care about my content."

"I have only my friends & family on my social media channels. How can I get my potential clients to notice me?"

"I want to reach 10K followers, but my followers aren't growing at all for a while. Must be the algorithm..."

Does this sound like you?

If so, you're not alone. Actually, these are the phases, many of my clients say before we begin working together. When I look up their social media and notice the same simple big mistakes that are not getting the results they want to see.

So, today I thought it would be helpful if I shared those common mistakes people made with you as it might help you improve your social media strategy and finally start seeing the results you want.

Let's jump in.

3 Super Common Mistakes You Might Be Making

Mistake #1: It's all about you, not about them.

The purpose of your content is to attract your ideal customers. I know it might be hard to process and to understand, but your social media is not meant to be for your pleasure.

Your content that you share on social media should provide value to the people who choose to follow you.

So, replace the question "What do I want to share today?" with "What does my customer needs to hear today from me?" and create content according to that.

Listen and see what are the issues your audience has and give them solutions. Maybe your audience wants something that would motivate them and inspire them, create content that would serve this purpose for them.

This strategy not only helps to improve your content and make people want to work with you and invest in your business, but it also makes content creation so much easier. You'll never have to brainstorm ideas for content when you listen to what your audience wants to see.

So, if all you do is post content to get likes & admiration or talking about what you feel like talking that day, don't get surprised that your audience is not responding to you.

Always aim to provide as much value with your content as possible.

Mistake #2: It's confusing.

Can somebody "get" what you are all about in a few seconds when they discover you online? Or do people need to google you and really try to figure out what is it that you're all about?

Well, let's find out:

  • Is your description clear?
  • Is there a visual "theme"?
  • Is it clear what you do & how you can help? ?
  • Are you consistent with your content?
  • Is there a call to action?

If you haven't screamed "yes" to all the above, we got some work to do before we start seeing results with your social media strategy.

You need to make it as clear as possible to your audience who you are, what you do, and how you can help them. That is the only way you can expect to see any results.

How are people supposed to know that they want to work with you when they don't even know what you do or why they should care about you?

There are millions of accounts on social media, all trying to attract attention and be seen. And those that make it clear why other people should follow them win and stand out in a crowd. So, make it your business to update and optimize your account and make it as clear for people to understand as possible.

Also, if you're one of those people who like to give away a lot of information all at once, remember that sometimes less is more and this is great when it comes to your social media profiles.

Describe people who you are, what you do, and what offers do you have in the least amount of words possible. People will be grateful that you save them time, trust me.

Mistake #3: You're everywhere and yet nowhere.

You're signed up to ALL the social media platforms, but you haven't mastered any.

This looks like:

You have a Youtube channel with two videos. You have LinkedIn with a half-done description. You have an Instagram account where you post "when you feel like it." And you have a Pinterest account with one board & you're about to jump on TikTok because everyone says you should be there right now.

Yup, shiny object syndrome is real, and it can totally ruin your business. There will always be new platforms that are 'hot' and where all the cool kids hang out. But you can't be everywhere at the same time with no value to offer to people on that platform.

I see this mistake very often, and it's hard to get people to understand why it's not the way to go about growing your social media presence. I know we have a fear of missing out, I do get it as well.

But it's going to be better for you and your business if you choose one or two platforms to start with. Establish your name on those platforms, grow your audience and community there, and then jump into the new medium.

Less is more, I keep saying it to you, but it's true.

Final thoughts

Well, here you have it. The three most common mistakes I see people make on social media and how to fix them if you want to start seeing results.

I know it can be hard sometimes to grow your personal brand on social media. It doesn't give you that instant gratification as it takes a long time to start seeing results.

But trust me, it's so worth it, and I'll pay off in the end, so don't give up and keep pushing. I know you can make it happen.
